Meet The Team

Maria

Maria attended Quinnipiac University, receiving a Bachelor’s of Science and moved on to respiratory therapy working in the children’s unit at St. Peters University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. After several years, her desire for business success kicked in, and she pursued a career in the mortgage banking world and joined Wells Fargo. She was told she was too nice, too pleasant, and not aggressive enough to succeed. Within two years, she was a top producer in the New Brunswick branch and ran the construction and renovation division for several branches.

After ten years, though enjoying success, Maria was ready for a change. She completed 3 levels of certifications in Thai Yoga Therapy at Lotus Palm School. This was the beginning of her path.

After taking a yoga class at her local gym, she knew what she was destined to do.  She was trained as a teacher at Kula-Kamala, earning RYT certification through the Yoga Alliance. She completed the training receiving certifications for teaching and yoga therapy. Using past learned business skills, Maria opened Inner Calm Health and Wellness studio in May of 2010.

Known for her kindness, and healing inherent in her nature, Maria hosts a myriad of events and workshops for other practitioners in the wellness community which include meditations, couple’s workshops, and one-on-one activities. She is married and loves to spend spare time with her husband, Ed, and her infant son, Jack.

Helen Hsu, RYT

Being someone who always took high impacting aerobics type classes such as step aerobics, jogging/run, tennis, zhumba… , Helen was encouraged into taking a fun but challenging yoga class to reduce her pain in her knees and foot. Surprisingly she got hooked and has personally been taking yoga classes for over 8 years.  Helen wanted to learn more about yoga particularly placing more emphasis on proper alignment in doing the various poses.  She took her Teacher's Training Course at Inner Light Yoga Center in North Brunswick, N.J. under the guidance of Tarra Piparo Madore DC, E-RYT 500.  Helen not only expanded her knowledge on the fundamentals of Hatha/Anusara Yoga, but she also learned yoga's true meaning (the union of the mind, body and spirit).  She is a certified yoga instructor, registered with Yoga Alliance.  Helen offers gentle, beginner, multi-level, vinyasa, flow, and restorative yoga type classes.  Her teaching emphasizes proper alignment while linking breath with each pose.

Additionally, Helen has also embarked in providing yoga classes for the Deaf/hard of hearing community with the assistance of Amy Chu, another Certified Yoga Teacher who is fluent in American Sign Language.  Both of them have created an opportunity for the Deaf/hard of hearing community to benefit in taking yoga classes in Central New Jersey.

Helen’s favorite saying “Life is a journey on a long and windy road and it never ends” aligns with various yoga principles and philosophies.  She is constantly growing and learning not only from her yoga practice but also from her yogi students.

Helen, CPA and CMA, is a Finance Executive.  She has a son who lives and works in NYC, a spouse who is an Engineer and has an adorable pug, Rocky.  Besides, yoga, she enjoys photography and spending time at the NJ shores.

Maura Bradley

Maura’s yoga journey began in 2006 when she attended her first Vinyasa yoga class. The result was an immediate sense of well being and spiritual connectedness that she had not experienced previously. Yoga had captured Maura and provided a long-needed sense of safety and calm in her world.

“I was so inspired by my own yoga experience, I decided to enroll in the Yoga Works Teacher Training program in the fall of 2010. Yoga has become my passion and I truly believe that yoga is a great way to heal the mind and body. My goal is to share my passion and joy for yoga with those who will benefit most. From the very young, including youth organizations, to patients recovering from chronic illnesses and individuals undergoing cancer treatments. My hope is to help provide comfort and ease to those people, through the sharing and teaching of yoga, so that they too may find peace during difficult times.

After graduating from Parsons The New School for Design and Marist College, Maura built a solid foundation of creative philosophies that she carried with her through her career as an Architectural Designer for leading corporate design firms in Manhattan. After settling in Monmouth County, Maura and her husband started a family and built a business. Maura’s hope is that her varied life experiences, along with her corporate qualifications and new-found passion for Yoga will translate to others through her teaching.
